Telemark style is nothing new and is here again. It was the first way of downhill skiing found out in Scandinavia. This style was newborn in 70s-80s
somewhere in America -where it could be anyway. When new technologies and materials enable us to use plastic boots that were able stand for the strength telemark curving required, a boom was here. In
addition, it was a small revolution in telemark skiing that those plastic boots are responsible for. Moreover, they made skiers to go in extreme terrain. Telemark skiing becomes more dynamic and aggressive.
Well, everybody was waiting for that.
Today we can go onto any steep slope, into any deep snow or hard snow. Nothing can make problem for a telemarker. Even narrowness does not make a problem, because of the way, the
crazy guys use to do any narrow couloirs today – right down. There is a main difference between telemark and alpine style that makes so easy to sky powder.
In telemark, it is the weight of the skier that is divided half to half between both skis, while in the alpine skiing the weight is mainly on the outside ski.The picture taken from the book 109
